FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

March 29, 2021

Rumbling Bald announces High-Speed Fiber Internet Project

Bringing fast, reliable Internet to every property.

(LAKE LURE, N.C.) – Rumbling Bald on Lake Lure announces a new two-year high-speed internet project that will bring fast, reliable internet to every home on property.

For several years Rumbling Bald has been researching ways to bring high-speed internet to its property. Due to the typography and geographic location of Rumbling Bald, this had been a very daunting and challenging task. Administration considered the resources around the area such as Fixed Wireless/Cellular, DSL, Satellites, and Broadband Cable from local providers along with the current limitations from weather and location to identify a plan of action. We recognized now more than ever the importance of a reliable internet connection and how it directly affects work, school, household purchasing, and entertainment alike.

After considering multiple local providers, the contract was awarded to local Asheville company Skyrunner Internet to provide the “gold standard” of high-speed fiber optic solution to the property.

The High-Speed Internet Project at Rumbling Bald will provide:

  • A fiber optic high-speed connection to every POA property within Rumbling Bald.
  • Base service on 200 Mbps download x 200 Mpbs upload with no data caps
  • Fixed monthly billing for three years
  • One-time installation fee per building
  • Presented as an optional service to all POA Members.

This project will take approximately 16-24 months to complete and consist of Four Phases. Work is scheduled to begin as soon as April 1st, 2021.

About Rumbling Bald

Tucked along scenic Lake Lure and surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains, Rumbling Bald is secluded yet eminently accessible from myriad metro areas. Charlotte, Asheville and Raleigh, N.C., Knoxville and Nashville, Tenn. and Greenville and Spartanburg, S.C. are all between one and five hours away. The idyllic retreat features two contrasting 18-hole layouts: W.B. Lewis-designed Bald Mountain and Dan Maples-designed Apple Valley.

Rumbling Bald’s marquee course, Apple Valley, stretches to nearly 6,800 yards and features expansive views of Bald Mountain and the surrounding Lake Lure area. Maples estimated 75% of shots at Apple Valley are either level or downhill, virtually unheard of for a mountain course. Shimmering mountain lakes adorn 12 holes, but water only occasionally comes into play.

Bald Mountain, at 6,300 yards, is renowned for its unique configuration of five par 5s and five par 3s. Movie buffs appreciate the 16th green, the backdrop of a scene from the movie “Dirty Dancing.”  A protégé of golf course architect George Cobb, Lewis is known for his traditional approach to course design. This philosophy is reflected in Bald Mountain’s playability from tee to green.

The property’s 150 vacation rental homes, condos and studios are ideal for golf groups of various sizes and feature golf course and mountain views. Post round, golfers can relax at Legends on the Lake, casual dining along the shores of Lake Lure, or grab a hearty sandwich and cold drink at Pinnacle Southern Kitchen at the Apple Valley clubhouse.

Rumbling Bald is rich with amenities and activities, including scenic Lake Lure boat tours, boat rentals, tennis, pickleball, a full-service spa and hiking trails. Families enjoy the Trout Stream Pool and Lazy River, winding its way through the outdoor pool area where guests relax under fan-cooled covered seating. It’s the perfect basecamp for exploring the natural wonders of western North Carolina and the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Get a View of the Brews around Rumbling Bald

Rumbling Bald on Lake Lure is considered by many to be the central hub for fun excursions in the Western NC area. With all that you can do at Rumbling Bald, the potential for fun around the area is truly limitless when you start here. One such attraction is the bountiful supply of breweries and craft microbreweries. Each of these breweries offers a unique experience in style, vibe, and of course, taste. Asheville alone hosts 26 breweries, but this number seems small to the 60 total included in the Western NC region. You’ll fall in love with the stories, the character, the views, and the charm of each local brewery.

Since it’s impossible to hit all these great choices at once, let us take you on a weekend brewery tour through some of our favorites stops around the area:

Day One

  1. Hickory Nut Gorge Brewery – Chimney Rock, NC
Heading towards Asheville, our first stop after leaving the Rumbling Bald gate will be Hickory Nut Gorge Brewery. Located on the banks of the Broad River, this village brewery brings a unique style to the small NC town. Although lacking in size, this quaint brewery specializes in English cask style ales that amplifies the body and smooth taste of each brew. This English style beer fuses well alongside seasonal keg ales with unique hops unseen anywhere else, such as the Devil’s Head Red Ale or the Hickory Nut Brown. If you are already in need of some nourishment, sample some bar food or classic English pub food like their fish & chips. This lively brewery connects you with the outdoors as well with seating on four separate decks that lead to the river’s edge. Enjoy both the river and a brew on the decks of this Chimney Rock gem.
  2. Whistle Hop Brewing Company – Fairview, NC
Keep heading straight for Asheville and along the way in Fairview you’ll find our next stop: Whistle Hop Brewing Company. There’s no way to miss this converted train-car brewery and its fun space. This three-acre property is complete with a slide, playground, full disk golf course, mini-golf, and other popular yard games. This is the perfect spot especially if you’re bringing along some youngsters. Adults and kids alike can get involved with this fun brewery atmosphere. These eclectic brews vary in influence and taste – from the fall favorite Molasses Pumpkin Marzen to the zesty Orange Blossom Ginger Tripel. Order your brew up at the train-car and choose a spot on the open-air patio or venture out to one of the picnic days spread along the lawn. Whistle Hop serves up brews as well as outdoor fun at their brewery.
  3. Highland Brewing Company – Asheville, NC
Our next stop includes our first taste of the Asheville breweries: Highland Brewing Company. The first legal brewery in Asheville since prohibition, this tucked away beauty is considered the largest NC native brewer and only distributes in the Southeast – making it a local icon. With the aura of a small bier-garden, Highland serves their year-round brews along with small batch seasonals. Enjoy the seasonal Clawhammer Oktoberfest or the year-round Pilsner inside the taproom or out on the meadow. The brewery hosts rotating local food trucks that will add even more authenticity to this Asheville experience. Enjoy one of the first great North Carolina breweries.
  4. Green Man Brewery – Asheville, NC
From East Asheville, our next brewery stop takes us into the heart of the Asheville brewery scene with Green Man Brewery. Take a step back in history at the original tasting room Dirty Jack’s or venture down a little further to enjoy the large Green Mansion tasting room. Everything from creation, distribution, and tasting are all included on this block for Green Man. This iconic brewery is known for its daring flavors and dynamic hops such as The Rainmaker – a double IPA, which includes four different hops. Green Man experiments with craft trends while also maintaining a firm hold on their traditional English beer style. As the oldest brewery and taproom in Downtown Asheville, not only is Green Man a landmark, it’s a lifestyle.
  5. New Belgium Brewing – Asheville, NC
If you manage not to deviate and explore one of the other popular nearby breweries such as Wicked Weed or Asheville Brewing, our next stop sits directly on the grand French Broad River: New Belgium Brewing. Immediately upon arrival, the large distribution center looms overhead with all its industrial might. Directly beside is the large dominating tasting room which opens to the river. The deck and spacious lawn filled with picnic tables offer a fantastic way to experience your brew outdoors as well or explore one of the intersecting trails and bridges on the property. Here is another chance to experience one of the local rotating food trucks that call Asheville home. As their name would suggest, New Belgium is home to many lighter lagers and smooth brews, but they also experiment with a lot of fun hops in their IPA’s with their Voodoo Ranger series. Whether you select the Belgian-style classic amber ale Fat Tire or a more adventurous IPA such as the Voodoo Ranger Atomic Pumpkin, this impressive brewery becomes a staple.
  6. Pisgah Brewing Company – Black Mountain, NC
After a successful dinner, either from the food truck or one of the many nearby Asheville local favorites, our final stop for the evening on the way back to Rumbling Bald will take us to Pisgah Brewing Company. Located in beautiful Black Mountain, often called the mini-Asheville, this brewery produces some of the most sought-after craft ales in the region. Pisgah is constantly entertaining with music and fun events as well as brews, at both their indoor taproom and outdoor stage. Not only experience fun and games but bring a lawn chair or blanket to catch a performance. While currently limited to drive by pickup only due to the pandemic, brews such as the Blueberry Wheat and the Pale Ale still offer a crisp refreshing experience for the drinker. Finish off the day with the local favorite on your way back to the lake.

Day Two

  1. Mills River Brewing – Mills River, NC
After a morning of relaxation at Rumbling Bald, day two begins with an exploration of towns and breweries Southwest of Asheville, with our initial stop at Mills River Brewing. One of the newer breweries on the NC scene (only five years old), this brewery focuses on the hops and flavors of each brew. With a large local following, Mills River Brewing has grown quickly with favorites such as the Big Creek Amber Ale, a seasonal beer now a stable due to popular demand, and the Mullinax Dry Irish Stout, the first beer developed by the brewery. And beer isn’t the only thing here to entertain you, live music is a continuous presence at this brewery – from Americana to Bluegrass to Folk. While you’re there, be sure to hit the trifecta by ordering from Juju’s Craft Cookery, the in-house kitchen and full restaurant at the brewery. Grab a Big Park Burger or a Briar Bottom Grilled Cheese to pair with your brew and some tunes.
  2. Triskelion Brewing Company – Hendersonville, NC
Our next stop takes us to the Historic District of Hendersonville with the Triskelion Brewing Company. This new-age brewery takes its influence from the west coast with a constantly rotating repertoire of brews and flavors on tap. Whether wild flavors or seasonal favorites, there is always something new to experience at Triskelion. One such fan favorite is the Black Wallace IPA, a blend of dark chocolate, zesty orange hops, and dark roast nuttiness. This sleek modern brewery is bringing both indoor and outdoor brewing spaces to their location along with live music and killer musicians. Triskelion is infusing the craft brew scene back into Hendersonville.
  3. Oklawaha Brewing Company – Hendersonville, NC
Just a hop, a skip, and a jump away is our next brewery stop in Hendersonville: Oklawaha Brewing Company. This industrial-hip brewery is vibrant in both its choice of hops along with its love of the arts. Decorated with local art and full of live music six days a week, this place is full of fun energy. With constantly rotating taps, you’ll want to try almost everything at this brewery before they are gone. One of their few flagship brews, the Hop Pig IPA, is a citrus explosion combining flavors of tangerine, grapefruit and pine. Or try the Blackberry Coconut Tart, a dark stout aged with local blackberries and toasted dry coconut. Welcome to pets and kids alike, this brewery brings together all ages for a fun community atmosphere that is hard to replicate.
  4. Iron Key Brewing Company – Columbus, NC
Our final stop in this weekend brewery experience is at the hottest new brewery spot, with its grand opening just this past August (2020!): Iron Key Brewing Company. Brought to life by three old friends and their love of the perfect brew, this brewery is a repurposed state prison christened Iron Key, due to the original key still required to unlock the doors. All the original craft beers at the brewery have penitentiary themed names such as The Big House IPA and the Lock-Up Lager. With beers as light as a Kolsch or as dark as a Stout, Iron Key offers an array of solid brews and smooth finishes. Alongside its devastatingly amazing beer, the brewery also boasts a full-time restaurant with menu items such as The Wardens Double Burger and Beer Braised Bratwurst, and bar food favorites such as House-Made Pretzels and Beer-Battered Fried Pickles. Consider grabbing dinner here as well before heading home.

The perfect brewery tour starts and ends with Rumbling Bald on Lake Lure. As the central hub, Rumbling Bald is surrounded by local and regional delights. Local brews can even be found on tap at Legends on the Lake restaurant. With so many exclusive offerings along with beautiful location and views, Rumbling Bald is your destination for the fall season. Come stay with us and unlock Western NC. FALLing for Color

Fall Season is nearly upon us and nothing is better in the NC Mountains than the leaf coverage. The mass color change is followed in true fandom from locals to visitors alike. With the mix of cool temperatures, warm apple cider, and cozy sweaters, September welcomes the first breadths of fall. The fall season would not be complete without its complete expansion of the red, orange, and gold hues. Peak leaf week is considered the sweet spot in fall leaf viewing – hitting that perfect time to visit always proves to be a challenge thanks to mother nature.

Here are some simple helpful tips to plan your perfect fall leaf escape in North Carolina:

Watch the Weather

Predicting peak leaf week is like predicting the weather – projections are made off of prior years’ data and some contributing natural elements. The weather itself has a huge hand in when and where the leaf colors appear, based on elements such as sun exposure, rain coverage, and soil conditions. Like any plant, the amount of rain and sun the trees get will affect their progression from green to a colorful array.

Plan by the Peaks

The first reveals of color happen higher, starting with higher elevations. Peaks of mountains will be the best foreshadowing of when the leaf colors will appear. Once the tips begin showing hues, the surrounding mountains and valleys are soon quick to follow. Beginning this next week, elevations of 6,000 or higher such as Rough Ridge on the Blue Ridge Parkway may begin to see some first splashes of color. With each week that passes once entering fall, the colors will continue to emerge as they come down the mountain. The Blue Ridge Parkway should be completely immersed in fall colors by mid-October, followed by Asheville by the end of the month. Because Lake Lure sits at elevations of 1,000-2,000, the Hickory Nut Gorge and surrounding area should receive its transformation around the first week of November.

Short but Spectacular

As its name would suggest, peak leaf week is fleeting and only lasts around a week with its most vibrant and full colors. Once the week mark has passed, the red/orange/gold hues begin to darken and fade into brown and begin to fall off the trees. Fall colors will remain around longer, but the jaw-dropping full colors are a timely treat.

Leaves in Lake Lure

There really isn’t a bad seat in the house when it comes to seeing the leaf change at Lake Lure. The trees wrap around the lake and display the full array of fall colors amplified by their reflections off the calm waters. Sometimes the best spot is parked on the beach at Rumbling Bald with a warm cup of cider and a blanket to take it all in. Or board one of our Scenic Lake Lake Boat Tours and view all the leaf colors from the luxury of the water. It’s also the perfect time to hit one of the trails around Lake Lure to survey the leaves from a bird’s eye view. Take a look from the great Bald Mountain yourself or take a quick drive over to Chimney Rock and see the entire gorge bathed in color.

Enjoy all the best in fall colors and mountain escapes during your stay at Rumbling Bald on Lake Lure. The picturesque 3,000+ acre community takes its name from the 3,200-foot mountain, Rumbling Bald, with its towering cliffs perched high above the beautiful Lake Lure. The whole family can take part in amenities such as golf, hiking trails, private beach access, courts, spa/salon, boating, private lake access, and so much more. You and the whole family can participate in some outdoor recreation by climbing up the stairs to “the Rock” overlooking the gorge and all of Lake Lure. Be on the lookout for local plants and animals that call state parks home as well. All trails are marked with what you might see along the way. Go find those “wow” moments in these preserved mountain landscapes.

Take a Hike

Rumbling Bald is home to a private trailhead access to the Buffalo Creek Park, beginning on the 3.5 loop trail – perfect for bikers and hikers alike. Buffalo Creek Park is one of the largest town owned parks in the state holding over 1,500 acres of forest and trails snaking throughout. Hiking through the mountains around Lake Lure will offer you views ranging from waterfalls, mountains, all of the Hickory Nut Gorge and Lake Lure, and the NC mountains. Explore new places in a completely natural and authentic way that will allow your mind to wander and center on just being in place.

Cook over a Bonfire

Surrounded by mountain scenery and the outdoors, experience all the senses during this out of doors experience. Grilling out reaches a new level when it’s done via an open flame or charcoal. Utilize the multiple grilling stations around the resort property to assist in your perfect night – by the lake, on the beach, nestled in the words. Every family should witness the sticky mess but total fun that comes with a smores night.

Stare at the Stars

Apple Valley Golf Course Reopens with New Champion Bermuda Greens

Rumbling Bald Welcomes Golfers for Spectacular Fall Season Featuring Two 18-Hole Layouts

For have clubs, will travel types in search of a “second season” golf getaway, mountain golf is calling this fall. And Rumbling Bald is ready to answer the bell with its full 36-hole array.

Apple Valley Golf Course, our marquee course designed by Dan Maples, officially reopened on Aug. 24 with new Champion Bermuda greens on all 18 holes.

With the National Weather Service predicting a warm fall season across much of the Eastern U.S., golfers have plenty of time to enjoy prime golf weather on our two 18-hole layouts, Bald Mountain and Apple Valley.

“With everything that’s happened this year, we feel incredibly fortunate that Apple Valley is reopening ahead of schedule,” says Rumbling Bald General Manager Jeff Geisler. “We now have the entire fall golf season ahead of us with 36 holes available, and we look forward to safely welcoming golfers from around the region.”

The course’s transition from bentgrass to Champion Bermuda began in June, as play was shifted to Bald Mountain. Ample rain and sunshine throughout the summer, coupled with the agronomic expertise of Director of Golf Course Maintenance Matt Lovell, allowed the popular Southern turfgrass to flourish out of the gates and quickly take root.

“Champion Bermuda is naturally heat tolerant, easier to maintain in this climate than bentgrass and has speeds up to two feet faster than other ultradwarf turf cultivars as measured by a stimpmeter,” says Lovell. “Golfers are going to love putting on it and will appreciate the speed and consistency it provides.”

The resort has completed several golf-focused enhancements across both courses over the past two years, including tree removal and replanting, upgraded landscape, and new E-Z-GO golf carts with USB ports, complimentary coolers and bottled water.

We offer golf packages combining rounds at both courses with 150 sparkling clean vacation rental homes, condos and studios. Ideal for social distancing, they feature golf course and mountain views. Golfers can grab to-go meals from Legends on the Lake, the resort’s casual dining restaurant on Lake Lure. And with Apple Valley reopening, so will Pinnacle Southern Kitchen, serving up comfort food favorites.

Golf is just the beginning, as Rumbling Bald is rich with amenities and activities, including scenic Lake Lure boat tours, boat rentals, tennis, pickleball, a full-service spa and hiking trails. Families enjoy the Trout Stream Pool and Lazy River, winding its way through the outdoor pool area where guests relax under fan-cooled covered seating. It’s the perfect basecamp for exploring the natural wonders of western North Carolina and the Blue Ridge Mountains.

And getting here couldn’t be easier. Charlotte, Asheville and Raleigh, N.C., Knoxville and Nashville, Tenn. and Greenville and Spartanburg, S.C. are all between one and five hours away.

This book is a must-read for every girl and woman to understand what and how it means to be unapologetically you and live life to the fullest. Be ready for the empowerment ladies.

There is a voice of longing inside each woman. We strive so mightily to be good: good partners, daughters, mothers, employees, and friends. We hope all this striving will make us feel alive. Instead, it leaves us feeling weary, stuck, overwhelmed, and underwhelmed. We look at our lives and wonder: Wasn’t it all supposed to be more beautiful than this? We quickly silence that question, telling ourselves to be grateful, hiding our discontent—even from ourselves. For many years, Glennon Doyle denied her own discontent. Then, while speaking at a conference, she looked at a woman across the room and fell instantly in love. Three words flooded her mind: There She Is. At first, Glennon assumed these words came to her from on high. But she soon realized they had come to her from within. This was her own voice—the one she had buried beneath decades of numbing addictions, cultural conditioning, and institutional allegiances. This was the voice of the girl she had been before the world told her who to be. Glennon decided to quit abandoning herself and to instead abandon the world’s expectations of her. She quit being good so she could be free. She quit pleasing and started living. – Barnes & Noble

Apple Valley on Schedule to Reopen with Champion Bermuda Greens

The news just came in about Apple Valley Golf Course, and it’s all good. Our marquee, Dan Maples-designed layout is on schedule to open later this summer featuring new Champion Bermuda greens on all 18 holes.

Apple Valley began its transition from bentgrass to the smooth-rolling Bermuda grass in June. After exhaustive research and testing, Champion was selected for its superior performance profile, heat tolerance and ease of maintenance. It has speeds up to two feet faster than other ultradwarf turf cultivars as measured by a stimpmeter.

Champion Bermuda is the marquee turf product of Bay City, Texas-based Champion Turf Farms. Founded by Morris Brown in 1966, other North Carolina courses with the grass include Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte (G-12), site of the 2017 PGA Championship, and famed Pinehurst No. 2, host of the 1999, 2005, 2014 and 2024 U.S. Opens.

“Golfers are going to love putting on these greens, and my staff is going to enjoy taking care of them,” says Matt Lovell, Rumbling Bald Director of Golf Course Maintenance. “Bentgrass requires more maintenance throughout the summer, from additional water to fans. With Champion Bermuda, we’ll be able to focus entirely on the golfer experience.”

The golfer experience at one of Western North Carolina’s only 36-hole golf destinations keeps getting better with numerous enhancements to both Apple Valley and sister course, Bald Mountain. From tree removal and new landscape to E-Z-GO golf carts with USB ports, complimentary coolers and rolled towels, Rumbling Bald continues to evolve and innovate.

“Our golf courses are an invaluable amenity here at Rumbling Bald, and we’ve committed to providing guests with an outstanding playing surface from tee to green,” says General Manager Jeff Geisler. “The greens on Apple Valley are growing in nicely and we’re excited to share them with the golfing world this summer and fall.”

Rumbling Bald offers golf packages combing rounds at both courses with the resort’s 150 sparkling clean vacation rental homes, condos and studios. Ideal for social distancing, they feature golf course and mountain views. Golfers can grab to-go meals from Legends on the Lake, the resort’s casual dining restaurant on Lake Lure. And once Apple Valley reopens, so will Pinnacle Southern Kitchen, serving up comfort food favorites.

How to Have the Best Green Thumb in the Mountains

As we all wrestle with the challenges of some extra time at home, we may begin to see the creeping of weeds and the overflowing of garden beds around us. Now is the perfect time to tame those wild plants and create the masterful pallet of a beautiful garden. And before you react with “I kill every plant I touch”, we’ve got some simple tricks and tips to banish that phrase from your vocabulary.

Select Local Favorites

While you’re driving around on your normal day-to-day errands, take note of the flowers in bloom in neighboring yards or growing wild on the side of the road. Often, we completely overlook the beautiful plants and flowers already in abundance in our area. Be smart with your selections by choosing native plants that already thrive in the area. Around Lake Lure, you may notice Bee Balm, Mountain Laurel, Rhododendron, and Flame Azalea scattered throughout the brushes and ridges. Especially in July, you’ll begin noticing in many yards the blooming of Hydrangeas – not native flowers to the NC mountains but have become a staple to this area, much like a range of Azalea bushes. If you need to see some localized guidance, walk through the Lake Lure Flowering Bridge.

Choose Mountainous Survivors

The mountains carry a range of varying sun exposures. Some are sun-blasted constantly throughout the day, while others are buried beneath towering trees that keep around the clock shade. Be conscious of which plants need which sun conditions. If your home is nestled back in the shade of the trees, consider mountain favorites such as the Primrose, Impatiens, Fuchsia, and Torenia. If your home is exposed to the sun throughout most of the day, try plants such as the Begonia, Daylily, Geranium, and Dahlia. There are also the Goldilocks plants of the world that prefer a bit of sun and a bit of shade to make it just right. These plants need sun in the morning followed by an afternoon of shade such as the Hydrangea, Peony, American Snowbell, and Azalea. Knowing where and when your yard gets sunlight will help guide you in your plant selections.

Make Year-Round Choices

As you plan your garden, remember that blooms are not year-round, so be sure to mix in plants that cascade and last all year – including the cold winter months. Blueberry bushes are actually very resilient with the bonus of flowers in spring, berries by summer, and vibrant red leaves by fall. Oak-leaf Hydrangeas are also great choices that stretch beyond the summer months; you will have blooms from this bush through autumn. Bluebeard is another shrub that tends to flower longer and leaves a large range of vibrant bush in the off months. Most flowering shrubs are a great choice for year-round gardeners with longer-lasting flowering seasons and growing to cover larger spaces in your garden. Be aware of the size of each plant you choose and space them out appropriately throughout your garden for year-round maximization.

Talk to a Professional

A professional doesn’t necessarily mean a landscaper – try engaging with your local nursery staff when you go to pick out your new plants. Instead of going to the gardening section of a large department store, opt for the smaller local nurseries that are solely dedicated to supplying plants. Not only will you be assuring quality products, but a staff that is both knowledgeable and readily willing to give you guidance as well. Some good local choices are Painters Greenhouse in Old Fort and Linda’s Plants & Shrubs in Hendersonville.

Planning for Garden Visitors

Either you love the sound or look of hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees, or you don’t. If you don’t want to be walking through a sea of wildlife near your home, plan accordingly to place the animal attracting flowers and plants further away. Some plants are more fragrant and alluring than others to wildlife and it is important to know the distinction as you plan your garden. Plants such as Butterfly Bushes (appropriately named), Lavender, and Hollyhock regularly attract butterflies. Bees will appear at almost every flowering plant, but especially like Hyacinth, Lilac, and Bee Balm. Hummingbirds love brightly colored flowers, particularly those that are red, such as Bee Balms, Daylilies, and Petunias. And while these animals are often found in gardens, there are other forms of wildlife that appear who are not as welcome such as rabbits and deer. Rabbits tend to go after produce the most, but are also particularly fond of Marigolds, Pansies, and Petunias. Deer go after Hostas, Daylilies, and Roses. There are some plants that are deer and rabbit resistant, so be sure to ask your local nursery staff members for guidance towards those choices.

Update Your Tool Shed

You don’t need a wide array of shovels, rakes, scissors, or tools to be a good gardener, but having a few key ones certainly helps. The number one essential is gloves. Nobody likes getting pricked and stuck by thorns or nettles and even the harmless-looking plants can cause irritation. Not that there is anything wrong with getting your hands dirty, but gloves allow your hands to be properly protected from cuts and irritation. Another tool to simplify your everyday gardening is a hand trowel (think of it as the baby shovel). The hand trowel allows for direct and easy access to digging up soil for planting or getting rid of stubborn weeds. The third tool you should make sure to have are secateurs (a fancy name for clippers). For those of you who love fresh blooms and bouquets on your table, secateurs are essential to cut your blooms off the plant. Secateurs are also used to help trim and prune back plants allowing for new growth or shape. There are many other great tools that could help you refine your gardening techniques, but these three above are the essential choices, even for a gardening novice.

Here at Rumbling Bald, we are grateful to have superb maintenance and grounds staff that keep our property pruned and preened to perfection year-round. But all our blooms and beautiful beds would be worthless without the help of our Garden Club. The Garden Club is made up of our RBR Members who have a passion for gardening and a desire to help beautify our community. They diligently choose, plant, and care for these beautiful plants, which are often one of the first greetings as you enter the resort.
