Lake Activities

North Shore Beach Cabana

Rumbling Bald’s private sandy beach is the perfect spot to enjoy the sun, or to take a dip in the Lake. Bring your own beach gear or rent some at the beach cabana, and enjoy the mountains, the water, the sun, and even the stars. Beach chairs and umbrellas are available to rent at the Beach Cabana.

Hours of Operation

  • Our projected date to reopen is set for Monday, April 22nd, however, this is subject to change and dependent on lake levels.
  • Our hours will be 10am-6pm daily.

Scenic Lake Lure Tours (1.5hr cruise)

Departure Schedule: 11am, 2pm, and 4pm

Pricing: $25 (adult) • $7 (children 5 and under)

Important Guidelines and Policies:

  • The Scenic Lake Cruise is approximately 1.5 hours long.
  • The Cabana and its offerings are open to Members and Lodging Guests only.
  • 4-16 guests per boat.
  • You may be placed with other groups during your cruise.
  • All guests must arrive a minimum of 15 minutes prior to the scheduled cruise departure time.
  • All cruises require a minimum of 4 passengers to depart.
  • For any changes or cancellations, please contact the Beach Cabana no later than 24 hours prior to the scheduled reservation. Cancellations within 24 hours of the reservation are subject to a 50% charge to the account or withholding of the deposit.

Boat Rentals

Please note our rentals are for members and lodging guests only.

Pontoon Boats – 10 passengers

  • $230 for two hours
  • $425 for four hours
  • $800 for eight hours
  • Dogs are permitted on rental pontoons for a rate of $10/rental HR

*Price includes hourly rate and gas only. Tax is not included.

Vessel Rental Agreement and Waiver

Important Guidelines and Policies

  • Any person operating a rental pontoon will be required to complete the Lake Lure Boater Safety Course, per the town ordinance. North Carolina requires anyone born after 1988 to pass the Boater Safety Course prior to operating a vessel.
  • All pontoon boat rentals include life jackets, safety instructions, and a lake map.
  • Pontoon boat rentals are strictly for cruising on the lake. Towing skiers or inner tubes behind the boat is not permitted.
  • All non-motorized rentals must be returned 30 minutes prior to closing.
  • Dogs are permitted on rental pontoons for a rate of $10/hr.
  • No glass or hard liquor is permitted on pontoon boats.
  • For any changes or cancellations, please contact the Beach Cabana no later than 24 hours prior to the scheduled reservation. Cancellations within 24 hours of the reservation are subject to a 50% charge to the account or withholding of the deposit.

Kayaks

  • Single Kayaks: $25 per hour
  • Tandem Kayaks: $30 per hour

Stand-Up Paddle Boards: $25 per hour (1 to 2 persons)

Boat Slip Rentals: $25/day

Rumbling Bald Private Trailhead

The Buffalo Creek Park Trail System offers approximately five miles of hiking and mountain biking trails. Rumbling Bald’s private trailhead is located at the north end of West Lake Drive. Picnic tables are available at the trailhead and Legends offers box lunches. Please check at the Wellness Center for directions to the trailhead. This map provides directions on how to get to the trailhead from the Wellness Center.

There are plenty of local trails off the beaten track as well as Chimney Rock State Park with the iconic rock overlook. So grab your walking stick and hiking boots as you head out to explore the trails at Rumbling Bald!
