“If people concentrated on the really important things in life, there’d be a shortage of fishing poles.”
—Doug Larson
North Carolina is one of the best places for fishing, thanks to its diverse waterways and mountain setting. Cool, free-flowing streams shaded by natural tree canopies create an ideal environment for fish, and our area is no exception. Lake Lure, Bald Mountain Lake, and the surrounding watershed are home to a variety of species including large and small mouth bass, rainbow and brown trout, bluegill, perch, crappie, and catfish.
Fishing at Bald Mountain Lake
Located within Rumbling Bald, Bald Mountain Lake is a smaller, family-friendly fishing spot with a dedicated pier that’s perfect for children and casual anglers. No license or permit is required to fish here, making it an easy option for guests who want to enjoy a relaxing day by the water.
Fishing at Lake Lure and Beyond
Lake Lure, just steps from Rumbling Bald, offers 27 miles of shoreline fed by the Rocky Broad River. State fishing licenses are required for Lake Lure and the Rocky Broad River, and boating permits are issued by the Town of Lake Lure. More information can be found on the Town of Lake Lure website.
Neighboring Polk and Henderson counties also provide excellent fishing opportunities within an hour’s drive, giving anglers plenty of options for both warm water and stocked river fishing.
Seasons and Species
Fishing is available nearly year-round in the Lake Lure area. Summer months are prime time for bass fishing, while spring and fall bring excellent variety. Even winter can offer a rewarding challenge for anglers looking to test their skills.
