I woke up this morning to every golfer’s nightmare, rain and wind. We all have those days where we have booked a round and plan to play no matter what, even when wind and rain plan to trump our plans. I’ve put together a few tips to help you get through the day.
First, make sure you are properly dressed. Wear a compression-type shirt underneath your layers to help keep as much body heat in as possible. I also suggest wearing a good pair of rain pants and rain jacket. No matter the cost, BUY NICE RAIN GEAR! You should also try to keep your hands dry as much as you can by keeping a good umbrella and towel close by.
Now, for playing in the wind. Make sure you follow the old adage of “swinging easy when it’s breezy”. I don’t know who came up with that statement but it holds true to everyone’s game. The harder you swing to try and overpower the ball, the more spin you put on it. The ball will then rise into the breeze and come up short of your target. If you are capable of hitting a low trajectory shot, that is the perfect play for windy days.
Lastly, forget all expectations of having a great round. The pros don’t even play well in those conditions so do not expect your outcome to be different.
