Named a "Top 20 Event" for the past two years by the Southeast Tourism Society, the Hickory Nut Gorge Olympiad is Lake Lure's premier annual festival. The 4-day event (August 27th - 30th, 2009) is filled with family fun and entertainment. Children can compete in a variety of athletic events while aspiring athletes can compete in golf, tennis, swimming, cycling, running, or the area's leading triathlon. The Olympiad's opening ceremonies with free water ski show, ice cream social and fireworks display is the perfect way for families to celebrate and enjoy Lake Lure and the Blue Ridge Mountains.
